Travel, 4-wheel or all-terrain? The right answer depends on where you are staying, how you plan to get around, and how far you want to go. Here is the honest local guide.

Most guides start by listing scooter specs. In the south of Tenerife, the right question is simpler: where exactly are you staying? The coast here has two very different terrains. Along the sea runs a largely flat, paved promenade of around nine kilometres linking Los Cristianos, Playa de las Américas and Costa Adeje — ideal scooter territory, whatever the model. But many hotels sit above that promenade: upper Costa Adeje, Torviscas Alto and San Eugenio Alto are built on a genuine hillside, and the daily trip down to the front and back up again is where small scooters run out of breath.
So before you choose, place your accommodation: on the flat near the seafront, or up the hill with slopes between you and the beach? With that answered, the choice between our three scooters almost makes itself.
The Apex i-Transformer is the scooter you barely notice you are travelling with. Press a button on its remote control and it folds itself electrically into a trolley-sized package just 63.5 cm tall, ready to roll into the boot of any taxi or hire car. At 25 kg with its lithium battery it is the lightest scooter we hire, and that battery is certified for air travel if your plans go beyond the island.
Choose it if: you are staying near the flat promenade, you plan excursions — Siam Park, Los Gigantes, a day in La Laguna — and you want a scooter that hops in and out of vehicles without fuss. Top speed 6 km/h, range up to 15 km, supports users up to 120 kg.
Skip it if: your hotel is up a hill. Its compact motor is built for level ground, not for climbing to Torviscas Alto every evening.
The Ikaria is the scooter we recommend to most guests. Four wheels with suspension on every one of them smooth out tiled pavements and dropped kerbs; twin gel batteries give 15–20 km per charge at up to 8 km/h — comfortably a full day out; and it has the highest weight capacity of our fleet at 136 kg, with a wide adjustable seat that swivels for easy transfers. At 48 cm across without armrests it still slips through shop doors and hotel lifts.
Choose it if: you want all-day comfort along the promenade and around the resorts, stability on cambered pavements, or simply the most scooter for your money. It also dismantles into five parts (heaviest 16.2 kg) when a car trip does come up.
Skip it if: you need one-button folding for daily taxi rides — that is the i-Transformer's job.
The Teyder Suzuka is the answer to the south's geography. A 300 W motor rated for gradients up to 21% and larger 210 mm wheels mean the climb from the beach to an uphill hotel stops being a calculation and becomes a commute. It carries up to 120 kg, covers up to 20 km per charge, and its delta tiller and 360° swivel seat keep longer rides comfortable.
Choose it if: your accommodation is in upper Costa Adeje, Torviscas Alto or San Eugenio Alto, or you simply want the strongest, smoothest-rolling scooter for full days of exploring.
Skip it if: you need it in and out of car boots constantly — power and bigger wheels come at the cost of easy folding.
No licence needed. Mobility scooters are driven at walking pace on pavements and promenades; there is no licence, registration or minimum age requirement for normal use. We give you a full handover of the controls at delivery until you feel confident.
Charging is ordinary. Every scooter comes with its charger and plugs into a normal hotel socket. An overnight charge covers a full day out; on gel-battery models it is good practice to charge every night.
Delivery is free wherever you stay. We bring the scooter to your hotel, apartment or villa across the south — or meet you at Tenerife South Airport so you drive off on arrival — and collect it at the end. Every scooter arrives charged, safety-checked and sanitised.
Still unsure? Tell us where you are staying and we will tell you honestly which scooter fits — it takes one message on WhatsApp. And if a scooter turns out to be more than you need, a wheelchair or a rollator might be the better hire.
