Getting around Los Cristianos with reduced mobility

Los Cristianos is one of the friendliest places in the south of Tenerife for anyone using a wheelchair or a mobility scooter — and it has one accessibility asset that no other resort in the area can match.

Playa de las Vistas is the only beach in the area with an assisted bathing service all year round. The Arona council service runs daily from 11:00 to 14:00 and from 15:00 to 18:00, with two amphibious chairs, amphibious crutches and a hoist, and no booking needed for individuals. The neighbouring Playa de Los Cristianos, beside the harbour, offers the same service but only in the summer months. If getting into the sea matters to you, this is the beach — and the resort — to choose.

The town sits in a natural bay, and the seafront is flat and paved: from Los Cristianos the promenade runs north along the coast, linking the resorts all the way to Costa Adeje — around 9 kilometres of largely level, surfaced walkway, according to the local council. That is ideal territory for a mobility scooter. Away from the seafront, be aware that the older streets climb away from the bay and have some gradients — worth knowing when you pick where to stay.

The harbour of Los Cristianos is the departure point for the ferries to La Gomera, La Palma and El Hierro, so plenty of our customers hire a scooter or a wheelchair here for day trips to the other islands too.

Mobility hire in Los Cristianos — FAQs

Which beach in Los Cristianos is best for wheelchair users?

Playa de las Vistas. It is the only beach in the area with an assisted bathing service open all year round — amphibious chairs, amphibious crutches and a hoist, from 11:00 to 14:00 and 15:00 to 18:00, run by Arona council. No booking is needed for individual visitors. Playa de Los Cristianos, by the harbour, offers the same service but only during the summer.

Can I get from Los Cristianos to Playa de las Américas on a mobility scooter?

Yes — that is one of the best things about hiring here. The coastal promenade links Los Cristianos with Playa de las Américas and continues into Costa Adeje, about 9 kilometres in total and largely flat and paved. Plenty of scooter riders do the whole stretch with stops for coffee along the way.

Is Los Cristianos hilly?

The seafront and the promenade are flat. The town sits in a bay, so the older streets rising away from the beach do have some slopes. If you plan to spend most of your time along the coast, this makes no difference — but it is worth checking where your accommodation sits relative to the seafront.

Can you deliver to the ferry terminal for a trip to La Gomera?

Yes. The port of Los Cristianos is the departure point for ferries to La Gomera, La Palma and El Hierro, and we can deliver your equipment to the terminal or to your accommodation nearby. Do confirm with the ferry operator how your scooter or wheelchair will be carried on board.
